ONLINE FESTIVAL

How does it work?

Online Festival - How does it work?

Ramona Wegenast

Managing Director MODfestivals e.V.

All of the festival’s programme items can be found on this website, which has been specifically created for »Musica Sacra International 2021«. As we can only welcome a few people here in Marktoberdorf this year, we have created a virtual festival area as a way to bring the festival into your home.

The Bavarian Music Academy Marktoberdorf is the main venue. By clicking on the image of the Richard-Wengenmeier-Saal (i.e. the concert hall) you will get to the events. The concerts, talks and workshops can be watched live. Some of these are compilations of past festivals or – due to the time difference – previously produced videos.

You will have the opportunity to look at the programmes during the concerts and read the lyrics. All texts have been translated from the original language to both English and German. Furthermore, you will be able to get in touch with us and other festival visitors through a chat function.

The ensembles are staying at the castle, which the Music Academy calls its home. One click on the right side of the building will open up information about all participating musicians.
Clicking on the left side of the building will lead you to our archive. In 2022 »Musica Sacra International« will be celebrating its 30th anniversary. This year we have already taken this opportunity to have a closer look at the festival’s history. Here you will find, among other things, photos and programme booklets from the past.

The festival’s theme this year is »our earth«. The theme was chosen to show how religious traditions understand the earth, from its creation to today. With its 200-year-old trees the Kurfürstenallee (i.e. the avenue) in Marktoberdorf symbolises this theme at our online festival.

An important part of our festival is the educational programme »tolerance starts at school«. Children and young people from all age groups are offered workshops on the topic of religions. A long-standing partner in this has been the primary school St. Martin, which represents the virtual entrance to our educational programme.

Marktoberdorf is known for its old town hall, which has its central location in the marketplace. This is where you can find information about our sponsors and partners, without whom this festival would not be possible.

The St. Martin Church towers above the town. It was build at the highest point and can be seen from afar. Its image stands for numerous interreligious projects, which exist in Germany and which we want to introduce at this point.

Not to be forgotten is, of course, our »Café Musica«. This popular meeting place, where musicians, visitors, staff and host families usually celebrate, has also been relocated to the virtual world. You will be able to meet virtually with larger groups or individually here at any time, either spontaneously or planned.

We are very thankful for our sponsors. For many years now they have been our partners, which is why they have been given a place of great significance on our digital map.

We would also like to take this opportunity to introduce you to our association MODfestivals e.V. and its committees. To learn more please click on our office – MODfestivals e.V.

A very special thank you goes out to our team. That is the team that has organised this year’s festival with great commitment and flexibility and the team of volunteers and staff members who can’t be with us this year due to the cancelled concerts. You will be able to find them by names if you click on the sofa! It is a sofa on which usually only staff members are allowed to sit and which is taken away from its owner in Freising and taken to Marktoberdorf every year – solely for our festival.

Please contact us via chat or email, should you have any questions.
Should you enjoy the festival then you are also more than welcome to donate to us.

Welcome to »Musica Sacra International 2021«. We are happy to have you!

Yours sincerely
