Group Anubhab

The Anubhab Group is a classic Indian combination of music and dance. The word »Anubhab« derives from Sanskrit and is most likely to be translated as »profound feeling«. A feeling that is revealed in the meditative ragas and talas in Indian music and within the profound expression of Indian dance. Under the direction of Debasish Bhattacharjee, who plays the tabla, the group members include professional Indian artists. The composition of artists changes regularly. They are all joined by a deep commitment and passion for the art. All of them are rooted and educated in the thousand year old Indian art tradition and are ambassadors of the subcontinent’s diverse music culture in order to touch people’s hearts and souls with their performances, which lie between meditation, improvisation and virtuosity.

Debasish Bhattacharjee:
Debasish Bhattacharjee is from the city of Serampore near Calcutta and has been living in Cologne since 2008. At the age of seven he was taught to play the tabla by his father before becoming the student of tabla master Pandit Swapan Chowdhury at the age of twelve and being educated in the tabla-playing style Lucknow Gharana. From 1987 he was taught by Professor Bablu Biswas. His career took him far beyond the borders of India into the great concert halls and philharmonics of the world. His work as a musician took him to the USA, Russia, Dubai and various European countries before settling down in Cologne in 2008, where he founded the Anubhab Academy music school and has been passing on his knowledge about the tabla and Indian music to more than 50 students. He also works on various music projects that border between Indian and Western music and experiments with genres such as Pop, Jazz and Western classical music.
